When you turn on your Luminara candle, the batteries send power to a coil inside that generates a magnetic field. A second magnet interacts with the magnetic field to produce random movement for the flame piece.

Our LED light shoots diagonally to the center of the flame piece creating an effect that convincingly reproduces the look of a traditional burning candle.

"Tried the candle 4 times. Twice from Amazon and twice from the company itself. Each time, the candle would go on and a couple minutes later go off. Tried new batteries, tried all settings, but all to no avail. I am so very disappointed. I bought these candles for a set of three. Two work just fine as they should, but not the tallest one. Have always had a good experience with these candles and have received many compliments on them but not now. For a candle that costs as much as these do, they should all work. I have received my refunds. That's not the point. I wanted a set of three, not two which is what I am stuck with"
